Day 3 to 6 Rain, sideways rain, stinging rain, fast rain, slow rain and lots more rain. God i love rain.

We left our first camping ground on Thursday morning and the rain followed us all the way to San Vicente. A small fishing town which when the sun is out would be lovely, but when arrived our mood was already a little low due to being cold and wet. We stopped at the first cafe we come along and formulated a plan. The first plan was to take a bus and get out of the relentless rain but the bus company wanted us to dismantle the bikes. We then found out that there was a train that could take us to Oviedo. The only problem was the train would leave only at 5.30 and it was only 11am. So we set up camp in a cafe in the main town centre. There is only so many coffees one can have before complete boredom sets in and by now Jay was getting restless and just wanted to get the hell out of there so in the end we found a taxi driver to take us. £150 later and we arrived in Oviedo, the driver dropped us off in the main city centre. We set off in search of a hotel. We found a Marriott hotel called AC. £80 seemed a OK and at least we would have our creature comforts, hot bath, comfortable bed and WiFi.
The following day was much the same as before. Yes you guessed it, rain and lots of it. So the plan was to go to Leon but again the trains only leave once or twice a day. After lots of talk and trying to work out all angles the train was the best option. There was lots of issues getting on the train but that is a whole new story. Fast forward to Leon. Life at last, people enjoying the a festival in the grounds of the Cathedral. We found a stool selling grilled chicken and sat down to eat. A tour of the area then back to the hotel as we had an early start to catch the 7.13M train to Vigo.
So here we are in Vigo on Sunday afternoon and let me tell you its dead. You can really feel that the recession has hit this part of Spain. Having said that you can see parts that clearly have money.. So tonight we will be hitting the town in search of food and maybe a little life before hitting the road tomorrow. I leave you with a mix of photos of the last few days..

Day two Santander to Oyambre park

Torrid journey, hill after hill after hill after, guess what more hills. The only good part about the whole day was lunch. We had grilled chicken with salad which was absolutely delicious. Probably the best dinner we will eat.
Upon our arrival at the camping ground we had another mini hill to climb then we had to set up the tent and lock up the bikes unpack our bags with our sleeping bags and sleeping mats yes………this is soooooo much fun!!!

So after catching our breaths with all of the fantastic stuff we have had to do I looked up in the sky and low and behold the heavens opened……..you just knew it couldn’t get any better…..with that we decided enough is enough let’s go get hammered!!!

We entered the Bar pradero where we found an old lady who has one tooth and a lovely smile, we ordered a Baileys and a Scotch and Coke these were poured out as trebles and I’m not exaggerating when I say trebles!!.

With that all about to happen and happening I bid you farewell until tomorrow when we can do it all over again god I love this so far….x

PS this was jay writing today as he found it necessary to vent his feelings.

A room with a view in Santander

The ferry from Portsmouth to Santander was super smooth but seemed to take forever. The weather was great and my bald head took the brunt of the sun’s rays. So I have had my first reminder to take extra care.

There is not a lot to really do on a 26 hours ferry crossing other than eat, drink and take the piss out of each other. So we made friends with complete strangers instead. One chap we meet was Mat who is a cattle farmer from Yorkshire. A complete gentleman and a top laugh. So last night we had three or four drinks with him and his wife. We also had great conversations with other couples who were happy to tell us their life stories which helped pass the time.

We arrived in Santander in great shape and found our b&b with the help from some locals. My broken Spanish at least made sense at some level with the locals. After booking in to the room and securing the bikes Jay and I took a walk around. One of the pieces of kit I wanted to buy before leaving the uk was a really good zipped hoodie / fleece. I did find one from North face but could not bring myself to give £80 for it but walking around Santander tonight made me wish I had not been so tight fisted. Reminder.. Buy a good flees tomorrow. It gets cold at night.

I leave you with a little picture of a church view from our bed room window at the Plaza pombo who’s WiFi is greatly appreciated .

Random act 1

Our first day has started well and the sun has been with us all day. We got on board the boat at around 3.30pm. After finding our cabin and dumping our bags in it, Jay and I took a tour of the boat. There are 9 levels on this’ on this baby and we quickly found the restaurants and so decided to have something to eat.

There is not really a lot to do on a boat so we decided to walk around the decks for the fourth time, it was on this fourth tour when a ladies hat got blown off her head. So in a random act of kindness Jay chased down the run away hat. So random act 1 complete.
More tomorrow.

60 Acts of Random Kindness

While away Jay and I will try to do a good deed everyday. These will be called Random acts of kindness. This idea come about after watching something similar on youtube. I watched the  enjoyment people got by giving and also I think this will be a great way to connect with people.

I don’t know how or where this acts will present themselves to us but I know they will be there in some way or form. So I look forward to giving and receiving and of course telling you all about them.
